If you’re like me, you like the idea of an Electric Vehicle (EV). The technology involved solves both minor and major irritations/problems of internal combustion engines (ICE) including (but not limited to):

  • no terrible fuel smell in garages
  • no getting your hands dirty
  • no cold starts on frigid mornings; and
  • no more taking it to a mechanic for repairs.

OK you’ll have to take an electric vehicle for repairs, but still. An EV also has that curb appeal the way a Mac did to a PC in the late 90s: they’re just cooler.

But that’s not to say EVs are not without their flaws. While these cars only represent a small fraction of all cars bought, these figures may change rapidly as production levels ramp up, and government incentives help the average consumer with the cost. As with any new technology though, EVs solve past problems but can create new ones too. Below are three underrated facts about EVs that we should think about as more of us start ditching the ICE and plug into an Electric.

They’re heavy.

There’s no getting around the fact that EVs are heavy. The cars are not incredibly heavier than your average ICE vehicle, but enough for it to make you take a second glance.
